Office design company avoid landfill as businesses redesign their workspaces post-Covid
As many offices are being re-configured in the wake of the pandemic, a Plymouth based office design company is offering sustainable furniture disposal solutions to their clients across the south west.
Engage Workplace have been inundated with new clients all rethinking their office space in order to make returning employees feel more comfortable.
Vince Brooks, Director at Engage Workplace said: “Working remotely has been a real eye-opener for both employees and employers alike. Perks have included an improved work-life balance, flexibility in how they work, saving time on commutes and multiple meetings, and the ability to access the outdoors during their lunch break. However, it has also made people realise that effective collaboration is built on human interaction, despite the success of digital meeting software. Therefore, we have been partially removing desks to create a lighter, safer environment and adding collaborative, agile spaces that foster a sense of connection.”
The removal of existing furniture to create more space has encouraged those in the office interiors sector to look at providing a sustainable service for clients who care about their green credentials and are mindful of the potential impact of waste.
Engage Workplace is working with Sustain, a division of their top supplier The Senator Group, who have introduced a new proactive and innovative service that recycles redundant furniture and packaging. Sustain offers an audited ‘zero to landfill recycling service’ which sees items being broken down to their raw materials such as wood, metal, plastic, fabrics and foam which are then reused or repurposed.
Since its inception, Sustain which boasts a purpose built £1.5 million 15,000 ft.² recycling unit, has recycled more than 270,000 items and diverted more than 7,500,000 kg of waste from landfill.
Vince Brooks added: “The majority of businesses that contact us are increasingly concerned about green credentials, climate change and their carbon footprint. Being able to offer the Sustain service has allayed their concerns and is proving to be extremely popular. This initiative creates a win-win solution for us all.”
